You can also use products that are formulated with skin lightening ingredients to brighten and whiten your body skin, e.g. kojic acid, vitamin C and niacinamide.

#4 Kojic Acid

Kojic acid is naturally derived from certain fermented foods such as soy sauce and Japanese sake, and it can also be made from different types of fungi. It works as a safe and effective skin lightener and brightener that absorbs into the skin.

The science behind how kojic acid works on your skin is that it decrease the production of melanin—Melanin is a naturally occurring pigment in the body that gives human skin, hair and eyes their color. Dark-skinned people have more melanin in their skin that light-skinned people have.

Tyrosine is needed for the body to product melanin. While you apply kojic acid to your skin, it blocks tyrosine from forming, and in turns inhibit the production of melanin. The decrease in melanin production may thus have a lightening effect on the skin.

#5 Vitamin C

Vitamin C acts as a powerful skincare ingredient that help neutralize free radicals and promote your skin’s collagen production, resulting into brighter, healthier, smoother and more supple skin.

#6 Niacinamide

Niacinamide is one of the two major forms of water-soluble vitamin B-3, and the other form is niacin. In general, niacinamide is well known for its abilities to build protein, boost hydration and reduce inflammation in the skin. Topical application of niacinamide helps reduces the signs of premature aging, such as wrinkles, fine lines, rough and dull complexion, and hyperpigmentation. With the boosting of collagen and elastin level, niacinamide also makes pores to shrink visibly by boosting skin’s elasticity.
