While 9 out of 10 guys would rather apply a tanner than a sunscreen in summer, being tan shouldn’t mean endlessly exposure to the sun’s hot rays. As a girlfriend, it’s time to step up and help protect your man – and yourself as well! – from the sun. Check out the list below to see how! 1. Wear a hat Wearing a hat protects your face from getting burned. It also protects your scalp. This is even more important if you regularly dye and perm your hair, which makes your scalp more vulnerable to sun damage. One added bonus – hats are trendy accessories! How’s that for hitting two birds with one stone. 2. Reapply sunscreen frequently It’s not enough to just apply sunscreen before you head out. While outdoors, you should reapply sunscreen at least once every 2-3 hours. If you are sunbathing, you should reapply it every hour. 3. Wear UPF clothing Ultraviolet (UV) radiation can pass through our garments and damage our skin. Wearing UPF clothing can help block these rays. The garment’s UPF rating identifies its effectiveness against UVA and UVB light. For example, UPF 50+ means the garment will allow 1/50th of available UV radiation to pass through. In other words, it will be effective in blocking 98% of the UV rays. 4. Add antioxidants to your diet Antioxidants can help save your skin from UV damage. Nutrients such as carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E are great antioxidants. This means you should consume more antioxidant-rich foods in summer, including carrots, oranges, nuts, and – topping the list – green tea! Prevention is always better than cure.
