When we talk about skin types, we usually think about the way we pick skin care products. But did you know that different skin types benefit from different diets too? Find out more below!
1. Normal skin:
The balanced, radiant skin everyone wants.
Suggested diet: While you don’t have to avoid or eat specific foods, you should still eat healthily! Remember to eat more fruits and vegetables and less meat. It’s good for you and the planet!
2. Dry skin:
Dehydrated, rough and scaly skin. Usually comes with a dull and lined complexion.
Suggested diet: Nourish your skin with health-giving fats and oils. Foods like avocados, nuts and olive oil, which contain unsaturated fat are good. Remember to drink more water to keep your skin moisture!
3. Oily skin:
Greasy complexion with enlarged pores. Frequently gets blackheads, pimples, or other blemishes.
Suggested diet: Avoid foods high in fat to cut down on greasy skin. Go for food with a low-glycemic index, like whole grains, brown rice, and pasta. And try eating more fruits.
4. Combination skin:
Dry skin in some areas and oily in others, such as the T-zone. Pores that look larger than normal on the sides of the nose.
Suggested diet: Drink more water and eat more fruits such as cucumber, tomato and kiwi fruit that are high in water content to re-balance your skin.
5. Dull skin:
Easily turns dull due to temperature and environmental changes. Dark circles and eye bags appear easily.
Suggested diet: Try eating more foods that are rich in Vitamin C, an anti-oxidant which helps soothe dull, dry skin. Good food choices include oranges, pomelos, strawberries and red and green peppers.
6. Acne-prone skin:
Just having acne doesn’t give you acne-prone skin. But if you develop breakouts without the tender swelling and have a dull complexion, you might have acne prone skin. In acne-prone skin, the outer layer may seem oily even though the inner layer appears dehydrated.
Suggested diet: Foods that are rich in fiber can help soothe your skin. Eat more fruits and vegetables such as cucumbers, carrots, berries and green tea, which have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities.
Give your skin the nourishment it craves. A happy, healthy lifestyle can help you have happy, healthy skin. Enjoy what life has to offer and that perfect complexion won’t be far behind!
