Summer is here! All of us wanna dress in sleeveless tops, skirts, and shorts. However, dark knees, elbows, and underarms can be a source of embarrassment. You can know more about the causes and how to get rid of these problems quickly here.

What causes dark knees and elbows?

Dark skin on the knees and elbows is very common. It occurs in people with darker skin tones as darker skin is more likely to overproduce melanin. It could be also caused by the accumulation of dead skin cells, sun exposure, friction, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation such as eczema.

How to get rid of dark knees and elbows?

Apart from bathing daily, using a body scrub to exfoliate your knees and elbows can remove dead skin cells regularly and renew the skin.

Some home remedies can lighten dark knees and elbows too. You can try to dip a cotton ball in the green tea and swipe onto your knees and elbows that prevent melanin accumulation.

For the prevention of dark knees and elbows, you should apply a board-spectrum sunscreen on your face, body, including knees and elbows to avoid sun damage. Also, you can apply moisturizers like aloe vera gel/ whitening cream containing Vitamin C on your knees and elbows daily to avoid dry and thicken skin that will lead to pigmentation.

What causes dark underarms?

There are numerous potential causes for underarms becoming darker. Some main causes include skin irritation and abrasion caused by shaving and applying chemical deodorants/ antiperspirants as sweat ducts are clogged. Wearing tight clothes also will lead to skin friction and develop thicken skin and darkened pigmentation under the armpits. Actually, darker skin under the armpits can be genetic too.

How to get rid of dark underarms?

Firstly, you should avoid over-exfoliating your underarms and staying away from harsh body scrub to prevent skin irritation and skin thickening. You can try to rub thick lemon slices to lighten your dark underarms regularly.

Change to use natural deodorants/antiperspirants instead of chemical ones to avoid skin inflammation and clogged sweat ducts. And, consider waxing or laser hair removal instead of shaving.

For home remedies, you can try to rub thick cucumber slices on dark underarms for 10 minutes and then rinse with cool water.
