Properly cleansing oily skin can be a challenge. To help you stay shine-free all summer long, we’ve rounded up these face washing tips for you.

#1 Pick the right cleanser

Choose a cleanser especially formulated for oily skin to reduce shine. It gets rid of the excess oil, bacteria and debris that oil can trap in your pores. Make sure you look for ingredients such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. And choosing a lightweight formula, like a gel or foam, can also help with oily skin as products that are thick or creamy aren’t always non-comedogenic and can leave you with clogged pores.

#2 Exfoliate regularly

Exfoliating your oily skin regularly to keep pimples, blackheads and clogged pores at bay. Oily or thicker skin can benefit from manual exfoliation and brushing as this skin type may have an extra layer of build-up on the surface that manual exfoliation can remove, leaving your skin less shiny and rebalanced. Do not overdo it. Even oily skin can become red and irritated from too much scrubbing.

#3 Wash twice a day

Washing your face too much can make your oily skin even oilier. Stick to twice-a-day cleansing. Once in the morning to create a fresh palette for sunscreen and makeup, and once before sleep to removes the pollutants and irritants that our skin is exposed from the day.

#4 Follow up with moisturizer

Don’t think you don’t need moisturiser just because you have oily skin. Skipping moisturizer could actually make your skin even oilier. And adding moisture to the skin after cleansing helps reduce the oiliness because it helps slow down sebum production. For oily skin, go for an oil-free, lightweight moisturizer with shine-fighting formula.
