Everyone wants to have their pretty new hair color to stay until next time. To keep your hair color from fading, here are 6 tips to take care of your color-treated locks.
#1 Don’t head straight to a shower
It may be surprising for you that shampooing right after you are back from the salon will have your money down the drain. Wait at least 24 hours to let the dye settle into the hair.
For anyone who desperately wants their hair and scalp feel cleansed, rinse your hair gently with cold water and scrub your scalp with fingertips.
#2 Use products formulated for colored-hair
What you put on your hair will make a difference in the longevity of the color and the long-term health of your hair. Products that contain salts, sulphates and detergents can strip hair color out. Therefore, you might need to switch your regular shampoo and conditioner to ones that are specifically formulated for color-treated hair, which can help protect the color and add shine.
#3 Keep it cool
Showering in super-hot water might feel relaxing, but it can actually do a number on your hair, leaving it feeling dry and looking dull. Use water at cooler temperatures when washing dyed hair as it will help prolong the brilliance of the color.
#4 Shampoo less
To prevent water from washing away your vibrant color, the answer is simple: Wash your hair less often. When possible, space out your shampoo days and this will help your color last longer.
#5 Apply a deep conditioner
Using a deep conditioner will help keep your hair smooth and hydrated, as colored and chemically treated hair need extra hydration and protection from the sun to prevent damage and loss of nutrients to the hair.
#6 Avoid heat styling
Protect your hair from heat, e.g heat styling and sunlight, to keep your hair color looking vibrant for longer. Use a heat protectant spray if you must use heat to style your hair. If possible, opt to air dry your hair.
