As cases surge and fear sweeps globally. Let’s take a closer look at how the outbreak spreads and what you can do to protect yourself from getting sick.

#1 Wash your hands frequently

Hands can pick up droplets that contain the deadly disease. It can get into the body and make you sick. Washing your hands is the single most important thing you can do to protect yourself from any infection, as experts say. Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills germs on your hands, especially after picking up objects to turning doorknobs that are potentially contaminated.

#2 Wear a surgical mask & glasses

Face masks can offer some protection as they block droplets released when an infected individual coughs or sneezes. Be sure you never re-use single-use masks and dispose of them appropriately. Also, the deadly disease can spread through the eyes, so wearing protective eyewear (goggles or glasses) can be an effective barrier.  

#3 Keep your hands off your face

Hands can transfer the germs to your eyes, nose or mouth. So, stop touching your face to reduce your chances of getting infected. Well, you probably don’t realize how often you touch your face. The fact is, not surprisingly, people touch their faces more than 20 times an hour on average as previous researches suggested. Do wear gloves if you really can’t help it.

#4 Maintain social distancing

Try to stay clear of people who are coughing or sneezing, or those with cold/flu-like symptoms. When someone coughs or sneezes, they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain the deadly disease. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets and get sick. And you should avoid crowded places like malls, cinemas and food courts.
