Holidays are often a time of overindulgence. When people get together, they tend to overeat. Read on and find out the 4 healthy eating tips to actively control your food intake during the holiday season.

Don’t skip meals

Be sure to eat a balanced breakfast, lunch and dinner, and eat healthy snacks throughout the day to limit overeating later in the day. If you starve yourself before a feast, you’ll be more likely to overeat – the hungrier you are, the less self-control you’ll have.

Drink more water

Drinking water can help control cravings. Try to drink at least 8 cups a day to keep on top of your health. More importantly, avoid or limit alcohol, but if you must have some, drink it with food.

Eat slowly

Eating too quickly often leads to overeating, as your brain doesn’t have enough time to receive fullness signals. In fact, eating slowly increases the levels of gut hormones responsible for feeling full, which may help reduce calorie intake. Not only eating slowly and mindfully help you eat less, it enhances the pleasure of the dining experience.

Keep active

Make room for physical activity, like a walk with friends and family after a holiday meal. Taking a walk after a meal can improve blood sugar levels, boost your energy, aid your digestion and burn calories all at once.
