Marketers always claim some foods are healthy alternatives. They are high in nutrients and good for your health. In reality, they may be worse for our body and can cause obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc. Here are some examples of these unhealthy foods. Eat smart and eat well!

(1) Fruit Juices

Whole fruits are rich in fiber and healthy. However, the nutritional benefits of fruit juices are not the same as whole fruits. Most of the fruit juices on the market are added high amounts of sugar or corn syrup. They contain little real juices. High sugar may lead to obesity, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, etc. Even 100% fruit juices are released fruit sugar and removed the insoluble fiber during the blending process. Drinking too much fruit juices can gain weight due to more calories consumed. Your blood level will rise rapidly. You may feel tired, shaky and hungry.

(2) Breakfast Cereals

In fact, breakfast cereals are not a good nutritious option for kids and adults. Most of the breakfast cereals only contain a small amount of whole grains. They are mostly made of refined grains, sugar and added some nutrients like vitamin A and iron artificially.  Even oat granolas are often loaded with sugar. Read the ingredient list carefully. Don’t choose the breakfast cereals that sugar is first or second item in the ingredient list or the quantity of sugar is even greater than the quantity of whole grains.

(3) Pancakes and Waffles

Pancakes and waffles are common choices for breakfasts or desserts. Pancakes and waffles are generally made of refined flour, refined sugar, egg and milk. They are high in trans fats. Besides, pancakes and waffles are often spread with high-fructose corn syrup. Both refined flour and high-fructose corn syrup can drive obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.

(4) Margarine

The marketers claim that margarine is one of the healthy and cholesterol-free butter alternatives. In reality, margarine is mostly made of hydrogenated oils which is the ultimate source of trans fats. Trans fats can raise your cholesterol and accelerate skin aging. You are better to eat a small amount of grass-fed butter or olive oil instead.
